Virginia

We thought Virginia would be the last state - err, "commonwealth" - on our trip. Boy were we wrong! As motel after motel was full, and as the hour got later and later, we were finally directed to a vacant room not too far off our planned route. But the way there took us through West Virginia.

And although we stayed a few weeks in Alexandria, Virginia, it turned out that we'd have to go all the way to Maryland before we found a home.
