Good Fortunes

At temples and shrines in Japan, you can typically get a fortune in exchange for a small donation. If it is a good fortune, you tie it onto one of these bars (or ropes or a nearby tree, depending on the temple) to make it come true. If it is a bad fortune, you tie it here to make it not come true.

Both of us had good fortunes, so we tied them to make them come true.
