Shinagawa at Night

The nighttime view from our hotel in Shinagawa. Most of the lower right portion of the picture is Shinagawa Station; to the left, you can see the lights of the train yards.

Shinagawa Station itself is a large shopping mall, both inside and outside the automatic ticket gates. It was here that we discovered koganemochi, balls of mochi rice rolled in crushed black sesame and optionally stuffed with sweet bean paste. They were giving out free samples, and it worked. We bought some then, and again at the end of our trip we had to get more before going home!
