Exterior of Samurai House

The samurai houses in Kakunodate are the town's main attraction. By this point in the trip, we had gotten quite used to being the only gaijin in any given place in recent (or not-so-recent) memory. We were, therefore, quite surprised to sign a guestbook at one of the houses as not only the most recent in a series of Americans, but as the second set of Marylanders to visit within a week! Apparently, a women's junior college in Kakunodate has a sister school in Maryland.
