Aoike

Aoike literally means "blue pond", and the pond water is, indeed, very blue and clear. This is where we started our guided hike through the Jūniko (Twelve Lakes) area of the Shirakami Sanchi.

Although the area is called "Twelve Lakes", there are actually 39 ponds there. The twelve lakes of the name are twelve lakes you can see from a particular rocky peak in the area.
